wow it's april and i haven't blogged since january. oops... well, it's been crazy, to say the least. i've just spent the last few days sleeping a lot, trying for normalcy in my life. let's start with today and go backwards: went downtown to visit my uncle and his dog in their new house so that my dog could get used to it. went for dimsum in chinatown (yum!) and then went for a walk in the park with the dogs. dropped in @ kensington market to see if there were any easter eggs left (none, all were found and smashed). saturday: went for a run in the morning, and then had brunch with my mommy @ pickle barrel. went to the logistics & sales meeting for Power Unit, then got a ride to the Power Unit mentorship orientation social @ bowlerama (we were 20 minutes late even though we were the ones running it). wow i suck at bowling...i have a straight 0 streak - as in, not a single pin down!! that is amazing. we went for ice cream @ baskin robbin's afterwards. had sushi @ tako for dinner, then came home and basically slept again. friday: slept in until 1:00, then went crazy and started fixing all my models, cleaning up the basement, cleaning up my room, and everything else that i could think of. i set up a studying schedule, filled out an application for flute lessons, and was on an incredible energy streak. must have been pure adrenaline. thursday: final review for my undergrad (last architecture studio course for me!), which meant i had gotten 1:45 minutes of sleep that morning (7:00 a.m. -8:45 a.m.). got to al&d by 12:30 even though studio started at 1:00, being the keener that i am. when i walked into the lobby, i spotted monika and sat down on the lobby bench for a breather after having struggled on the ttc with my drawings and gigantic model for the past hour. then all the guys from the morning class came downstairs (they had to wait until almost 1:00 before they could pick up their work and leave), so we all just sat there and talked until it was time. we all looked pretty trashed - i was sore all over from carrying the model, and from making it. i had cuts on me, glue in my hair, and my back was in sad shape from bending over the drafting table for hours. we had blisters on our fingers, nobody had shaved, half the ppl hadn't showered, and everyone just looked like they were going to fall down any second. we took the elevator upstairs because there was no way we were going to make it up 12 flights of stairs with those models. it didn't really matter 'cuz mine was broken by the time i got to the fifth floor anyways. we were separated into two groups and pinned up. oddly enough, both me and steph were the first ones to present (we were in different groups, on opposite sides of the wall). my review was soooo long, but i thought the commentary was really interesting, particularly coming from donald chong. he had all these great ideas for my project, and mason white was hilarious. he injected a lot of humour into all the reviews. then andy payne dropped in and everyone got scared because he's known for his obscure literary references and extremely long vocabulary. however, he was reasonable this time around, and i think all the reviews ran very well. our prof had gone nuts and brought three trays of cookies, granola bars, water, and juice. i think she figured that we wouldn't have eaten or slept at all for the past few days, which is an incredibly accurate guess. pasquale's model was phenomenal - all in wood, all twisty amazing. francesco's was the final review of the day, and it was really funny because they actually told him that he's too clean - they wanted messier drawings and messier models =S go figure...critics always need to pick something to criticize. my eyes were closing all the way through the 3 hours of studio...i was sooo tired. after the review, we had to go wait outside for 45 minutes while they did the grading. we went down to the eric arthur gallery to look at the norman foster exhibition and dave carter (last term's prof who we loved dearly) was there. hung around the gallery until it closed and kicked us out. then we went upstairs and had to wait another 20 minutes because they STILL weren't done with our projects. when they were finally ready, i called my dad, got him to take my project home, and went to the buttery for a half hour nap. the trin quad party was in full swing (i could hear the music), but i hadn't had time to get a wristband to get into it, so i just slept instead. by 6:30 i was on my way down to the hummingbird centre. i got there at around 7:15, so i didn't really have time to eat more than 2 forkfuls of deli meat pasta salad before wozzeck started. it was amazing, even though i kinda had to close my eyes during the interludes. atonal, modern opera by alban berg - fantastic set design by michael levine, and excellent orchestra directed by richard bradshaw. went home afterwards (thank god the opera was only an hour and a half), and spent the rest of the night trying to calm down and sleep. i was still stressed out and panicked from working like a maniac the past few weeks. wednesday: handed in a paper in the morning, then ran down to the al&d library to try and find frank ching's design construction book because i wanted to figure out what the spans are for glass panes. couldn't find it, even though you can't take it out of the library, so i went to toose across the street to buy one stick - yes, one 30 cent stick. went back to sid smith and studied for a test, then wrote it. went home and started working on my model and drawings. went to teach from 3:45-6:15, then went back to work. as discussed already, i didn't sleep at all that night. tuesday: worked on my paper until midnight. taught from 3:45-6:30. monday: skipped morning class, went to my 11:00-12:00 class, then worked on my paper for 6 hours in j.w. graham (trin library). grabbed a hot dog on the way to my night class and tried to keep awake while my incredibly adorable prof with the new zealand accent and the british expressions gave his final lecture. he's sooo funny...though unfortunately humour is still not enough to keep me awake at that hour. went to the TCDS Iggies reception (trinity college dramatic society awards ceremony), after having skipped the actual ceremony part. hehe i had a total excuse for only attending the party - i had class! catering was pretty good, as was the open bar. i stayed from 9:00-10:00, chatted a bit and then headed home. i don't think anyone quite captured the "funky formal" dress code - we either went informal or formal. what IS funky formal anyways?! saturday and sunday: worked on context for my model, drawings, and my paper. friday: worked on my paper until 10:00 a.m., minutes before i printed it out and ran out the door before i would be late for class. after class, same work as saturday and sunday. thursday: worked on my paper and pulled an all-nighter. got 2 hours of sleep from 3:00 a.m. - 5:00 a.m. and kept on working on my paper until 10:00 a.m. i have no idea why my paper took so long, seeing how i started it 3 weeks before and was working on it continuously, but it did... days before...all a blur. i can't really remember what happened when or where anymore...it was just horrible and i'm glad it's all over. i don't want to pick up my papers, nor do i want to even think about all the work that's ahead of me. i'm so glad i'm not summer-schooling.
