donna, here comes another super long post hehe. i haven't had anything actually due for the past week, so all of a sudden i find that i've got time to spare...so what did i do? i responded to a crew call for a production of "you're a good man charlie brown" and spent the entire weekend working on the set lol. thursday i went down to campus even though i didn't have class that day -_-*. we met up at the studio theatre, which i didn't even know existed. it is right behind robarts and it's where the graduate drama students work. we took over their workshop in the basement, and the first thing we had to do was slide large sheets of plywood, etc. through the basement window. then there was laying out everything and cutting them out...oh the amount of sawdust produced by that skill saw was daunting...there were quite a few volunteers who dropped in every now and then that day. i got to handle a drill hehehehehe...also discovered that i can't hammer nails in straight for the life of me. we cut out the pieces for snoopy's dog house and had put all the structural pieces together, when it occurred to us to check and see if we could get it out the door. it was too big to fit through the window or the door, so we had to perform emergency surgery lol...we installed hinges on the corners as quickly as we could before the glue at the joints set permanently, then pulled all the pieces apart. it was really sad 'cuz we'd spent so much time making sure everything lined up, gluing, then nailing. we started around 2:00 p.m. and i left at 7:00 to go to the musicbox children's charity training session. the chocolate chip cookies they had @ the training session were EXTREMELY welcome seeing how i hadn't had any dinner. when it ended @ 8:00, i got home and had some actual dinner hehe. friday i ran into a LOT of ppl. first thing in the morning i ran into theresa, who i used to go to elementary school with. i'd forgotten to bring an umbrella with me that day seeing how it was all clear skies that morning...it rained the WHOLE TIME afterwards. *sigh*. walked up st. george because my friends wanted to go to gabby's on bloor for lunch...as usual, i never end up getting any lunch because there's no time!! i think i'm starting to develop this extremely bad habit of sitting down, getting a glass of water, and then leaving after 10 minutes without ordering. by the time they get around to ordering, i need to get to class...argh. anyways, i got out of class around 3:30 instead of 4:00 because it was one of those "crit" days...well, not really crit because it was more "go ask the TA and prof questions and discuss your ideas" day. but i got to the studio theatre around 3:30, just as everyone stopped working on everything for a break. instead of going to the press rehearsal, i decided to head over to yorkville and do something extremely urgent last-minute shopping for my mommy's b-day. her actual birthday was on saturday, but we'd made reservations for dinner that friday. so i dragged my portfolio case and model with me on bloor with no idea what to get her. i went into jacob, and suddenly discovered that there are all these other stores in the mall that i'd never been into. there was an indigo there, so i actually ended up shopping there...anyways, randomly ran into a guy from my class there, ended up walking to yonge + bloor station where i ran into angela. i hadn't seen her since...august?! got home, showered, and then went to dinner @ le biftheque. mmm...prime roast...hehe. i got my mommy's hot pink gift bag to match the hot pink stripes on the card, and the green stripes on the card to match the photo album ^___^ and then i was wearing my pink skirt and shirt so that i could match the whole thing!! i'm sooo cool that way =P saturday i got downtown at 9:00, which is when they were SUPPOSED to start working on the set again. instead of meeting up at the studio theatre, we were slated to work @ the GIT (george ignatieff theatre). i got there and the entire building was locked up...i waited outside, shivering, attempting to read my book for a whole half hour. i finally gave up waiting there and went to the robarts reading room where it was much warmer. walked back and forth from the studio theatre to the GIT trying to see if ANYBODY was ANYWHERE. finally walked to the GIT and (surprise!) the automatic doors responded to me and OPENED! i felt like i was in the arabian nights story where "open sesame" is the key word lol. the stage designer was in the basement workroom laying out the drop cloths, and we had to move all the pieces of the dog house from upstairs down to the workroom and paint them a pretty red. got paint on my jeans, which probably won't wash out. note to self: go shopping for new ones. after getting one coat on, we took an hour break to let the paint dry. i went around campus trolling for food and discovered that EVERYTHING was closed. ran into ekaterina on st. george - funny thing to do, run into someone you know on thanksgiving weekend. anyways, we had a nice chat but it kinda put me into a rush to find food quick. i ended up facing one of my greatest fears - ingesting street meat lol. there was a hot dog stand outside of robarts, and their chicken hot dog was remarkably good. we finished the second coat of paint and headed over to the studio theatre to meet up with the drama prof who's the theatre manager, and poor janet who is producer, publicist, head carpenter, treasurer, secretary, etc. for the production...she's so overworked it's not funny. PLUS she has pneumonia and working in that workshop with all the sawdust was sending her into the most horrific coughing fits. anyways, they hadn't gotten there yet and the studio theatre was all locked up. tara (stage designer) and i decided to head over and find them, and we were just on our way there when this man ran up to us asking if we'd seen two guys running in that direction. he claimed that he'd been mugged by them, told us that he was visiting from hamilton, that it was his birthday, that he'd reported the whole thing to a policeman, and that nobody had tried to help him when he was mugged. he was very detailed in his story and very well dressed. tara gave him $20 and i gave him a token so that he could get home. we walked over to sarah's on bloor (middle-eastern food) where sharon (prof) and janet were finishing up lunch. when we related what had happened to us on our way there, it turned out that sharon had heard the same story last week. we headed over to the campus constabulary to report the scam and then to the studio theatre where i attempted to move a huge, heavy triangular riser over to the GIT, failing miserably to do so. i'm so weak, it's not funny...i'd almost made it there too. anyways, i got to do some more hammering and gluing back at the studio theatre afterwards. i left at 5:30. sunday i slept in until 11:00, had lunch, got back in bed to read, and then fell asleep until 5:00 lol. that whole day was about sleeping and eating. it was sooo cold there was no way i could concentrate on the page...i just got kinda sleepy =P. we went to dinner w/ my grandparents, my uncle + his gf, then my bro and i played pool until 10:30 @ my grandparents' apt. rec. centre. today i got up @ 9:20, read a bit, then headed downtown to the studio theatre. the three of them were sitting outside having a chat when i got there...hehe they gave me a cheer for showing up =P i need more of that - how about a whole class cheering for me whenever i walk in?? huh?? lol...VIP treatment!!! we finished up the carpentry work and transported it over to the GIT. argh guys are sooo lazy and annoying. we had ONE guy come over and move stuff for something like 10 minutes and he complained the WHOLE TIME. he only moved 2 pieces!!! and i helped him move one of them!!! omg...us four have been schlepping our hearts out without a word of complaint the whole time. grrrrr.... we broke for dinner/lunch...linner...lupper...whatever you wanna call it ^___^. went over to sarah's again...mmmm falafel sandwich. i haven't had one in so long!! afterwards we walked to the robert gill theatre, which is inside the koffler centre. it's kinda cool to go into all these buildings that i either haven't ever been in before, or have never approached from certain streets. it's like seeing a whole new campus!! it's also cool that all these buildings are completely shut down and we're the only ones who can access them because we have the keys. anyways, we had to borrow 4 boxes from the gill and take 'em all the way back up to the GIT. janet had a bad coughing fit on the walk up, so we took a break right on the street corner of st. george + harbord. we used the boxes as chairs and decided to have our own party right there lol. first it was 4-way rock, paper scissors, then we had 4-way thumb wars, then we played a variation of rock, paper, scissors with nuclear bomb, cockroach, and foot lol. we just sat on the street corner, waving to passersby and cars lol...it was too much fun. we must TOTALLY bring a tea set with us next time, dress up in pretty white frocks and have a whole tea party on the street corner. it's going to be SOOO MUCH FUN! okay, it looked like it was going to rain so we made our way over to the GIT with the boxes and started painting all the pieces we'd moved over. i left @ 8:00 and here i am blogging away...interesting way to spend thanksgiving, no? holed up in workshops painting and hammering hehe. my family's not into holidays anyways. i think this was the most productive, positive thanksgiving i've ever had.
