okay...this is continued from my livejournal post, 'cuz it was getting long and i'm weird ^____^.
okay, so where was i? i had to go up about 14 flights of stairs to reach the fifth floor of the architecture faculty, where i was LATE for class because i couldn't FIND IT! grrrrr. there are next to no chairs left, and it's this completely blank room with shades pulled down over all the windows. it's kinda er...uncomfortable in its starkness. we don't even have a TA assigned to this section yet! there's 30 of us, and our prof seems nice. she warned us it's a tough course =S and the textbook which i'll probably get next week is going to cost me $80 >-< what's with these super expensive textbooks? it's not even that thick! geez...
and then there's this LOOOONG list of art supplies, which i actually have most of at home already, but i went to the art supply store right across from the architecture faculty after class and got the stuff that i don't already have.
we had a 5% assignment today to go outside and pick an architectural space/condition and do a "gestural drawing" (basically a free sketch) and a "diagrammatic drawing" of the same thing. we had a half hour to do each.
for the first one, we had to use conte, which makes a HUGE mess, as you can well imagine. it was horribly windy outside, and the conte got EVERYWHERE. and then, the wind blew the sketch right up onto my shirt, which was subsequently smudged with conte. i had conte all over me!!!! i was soooo mad. the diagram we did in hb pencil, not like it mattered 'cuz it was pretty much smudged w/ conte from my conte-covered fingers anyways.
as i'd mentioned, i went to the art supply store after class and got some stuff. among them is this large masonite board that i had to take home w/ me on the subway and took up an embarrassing amount of room. i don't know how i'm going to get it there and back every week *sigh*. we don't have drafting boards or ANYTHING in our classroom, so we have to bring everything ourselves, e.g. paper, portfolio, drafting board (masonite board), pencils, pens, etc. drives me insane how much i'm spending on stupid art supplies! well...stupid COOL art supplies. clutch pencils are fun!! ^___^ costing me a fortune w/ lead and all, but FUN!!!!
