argh so mad! i blogged last nite and it erased it! grrrrrrr
monday

after a 45-minute commute, i got to trin 'round 12:15 and registered for frosh in the buttery. they gave us the trin tee and the big laundry bag "sac pack" w/ tons of stuff inside that i had to lug around the whole day since i was roomless. we had to wear name tags and us underagers had to wear glowing neon orange wristbands to warn away any potential libations. met vinca and went w/ her to put her stuff in res but her roommate had the key and we couldn't find her. wandered around for a while and finally just left her stuff outside her room w/ a prayer. went to kirkwood meadows to see what food was left and found there was next to none - oranges and bananas w/ bees buzzing 'round them. so i had water for lunch. mingled, met some ppl, tried to rmb names, forgot names, reintroduced ourselves to each other 'cuz we forgot we'd met before; life is strange indeed.
got herded over to the trin quad where we met our frosh leaders - i was in group 13 of all numbers. hehe shannon and jen were really nice and super enthusiastic: they jumped up and down and screamed 13 the whole time. there were 25 frosh groups, and about 10 frosh in each group. we played the TP game while everybody else was getting organized (each person takes a length of toilet paper and then for every square or hand length they rip off, they have to tell everybody something about themselves). then we were introduced to all the student leader, organizers, heads of college & arts, etc. each group was given a topic they had to act out in a skit and ours was we had to make jesse and graeme laugh. so we were told all the embarassing stuff they ever did and did a couple of skits that didn't fly too well 'cuz they certainly didn't laugh. maybe they smiled...maybe. either way, we lost miserably 'cuz we were one of the last groups to get dinner in the form of home-made pizza in the st. hilda quad. yuck.
after dinner, we went back to the trin quad and our frosh groups, and were taken to seeley hall to be introduced to the student government. they answered our questions, the hall was nice, there wasn't enough room so some ppl had to sit on the floor.
afterwards, we were taken to the GIT (george ignatieff theatre) to meet w/ the admin (dean abbott, dean bowden and the chaplain). listened to a rather boring lecture of what we can't do in res, safety on the campus, pulling fire alarms and getting fined, etc. went back to the quad and our frosh leaders led us on a tour of trin complete in all its confusing gothic glory. there was a party after, but seeing how it was all dark already and i had to commute back home, i left. it was one scary, dark walk alongside queen's park to get to the station. thankfully i am still alive >-<
tuesday

unlike yesterday, i actually got to trin in 'bout half an hour so i was there in time for breakfast @ melinda seaman. it was good stuff - french toast, hard-boiled eggs - hardcore! (this is coming from a person who has a glass of lactose-free milk and a cookie on the way out mornings). went to the rigby room to stare at group of 7 paintings (ooooh, aaaah) then went for academic registration in the buttery. then we were divided into two groups depending on what letter your last name started with, those going from a to lin headed over to the GIT for another admin meeting, while liu to zou split up to meet academic dons depending on what stream you were (sciences, commerce, social science, humanities). humanities that i am, i went to the larkin building and met the english and philosophy don, along with the peer counsellors. it was pretty funny listening to the dons bicker hehe and they answered a lot of our questions too. then it was our turn to see the admin *sigh* derek allen (vice-provost) hosted, we were welcomed by prof. servino (acting head of a&s), the assistant/associate registrars gave us a talk too (dr. ferguson, mr. de melo). there was a "panel" of three trin affiliated ppl - a 4th year student; a trin grad who is now an education consultant; a trin "fellow" or teacher who is affiliated with trin. they gave their answers to a survey that we'd all completed that morning, and there was a debate that was starting to heat up (imagine all the smart debating ppl from conferences in high school all together in the same room - sparks start flying sooner or later) but it was stopped 'cuz we didn't have time to argue w/ each other.
afterwards, we had this massive, massive line-up for lunch outside (by outside, i mean the other end of the building, that's how long the line was) of strachan hall. the food was disgusting - meatballs in a hotdog bun, macaroni and cheese YUCK YUCK YUCK. we went to the quad for the campus tour, and it was the best! hehehehe we took a shortcut to university ave. and encountered vic frosh marching around. exchanged cheers/insults and went on our way - there were so many of them and so little of us! our cheer is umm...not aggressive enough, "oh really? oh rally? how beastly! how jolly! trinity! trinity! rah!" with a queenly wave of the hand throughout. -_-*
we saw so many huge frosh groups from dif. colleges marching around...it was kinda fun. our frosh leaders would be yelling insults over to them and they'd be yelling at us - no violence or anything tho. we walked along bay st., bloor and st. george, had bars, pubs and pool rooms pointed out to us. it was all good...hehe they made us walk into a tim hortons and loop back. we were supposed to look disdainfully around us, but i believe we failed to do so. it was so funny 'cuz employees and clientele turned around, and saw this huge line of ppl just trekking in and out with no apparent goal in mind. pointless, pointless.
we cut through knox college (sooo pretty!) and ended up @ kings college circle. the whole field or front campus was covered w/ yellow hard-hat wearing engineer frosh hehe. there were some purple-dyed dudes walking around w/ their hard hats...so funny. they had catapults set up at either end of the field - i can't believe angela and jessica dyed themselves purple! *gasp* hehehehe i heard they were also marching right through the eaton centre and scaring all the store owners. now why didn't we get to do that? our frosh leaders showed us the u of t flag on the roof of con hall and told us how they tried to steal it last year lol. it's a tradition of sorts....
we ended up back at trin and we had free time. since i had nowhere to go, i just sat in the quad and read over the sac handbook *yawn* well, at least it gave me something to do. then i noticed a couple of yellow-clad engineer frosh (poor innocent guys were probably forced into it by the upper years) hovering @ the door to the trin quad. they wandered in and meandered around the quad and some upper year trins were starting to close in on them. they made their way towards one of the res doors that open into the quad and jesse pulled them out. they left after that, but then a trin guy walked back in w/ a yellow hard hat and everybody cheered. like i said, poor innocent engineer frosh. couldn't have been pretty.
then a girl walked up and introduced herself as a third year student (from UC hehe) and she answered all these questions i had. her friend was the guy who'd presented that morning so then we were all talking about high school, university, frosh, etc. it was fun ^_^ and i feel so much better about classes now *deep breath* i'm going to hopefully survive the first couple of weeks. then vinca came around w/ a guy from brebeuf and we all talked some more until it was time to change for the pre-dinner reception. everybody was dressed semi-formally and we were mingling in the quad for an hour, drinking lemonade, iced tea and orange juice in plastic dessert cups in pseudo-adult style - there wasn't an ounce of alcohol in those punch bowls! the provost's dinner is supposed to be the second best all year, it wasn't bad at all.
there were 3 or 4 long, long, long tables reaching from one end of strachan hall to the other and at the front there's a platform w/ another table on it running across called high table. that's where all the admin (provost, deans, etc.) and student leaders get to sit. we have to stand and say grace in latin, then get to eat. chicken, veggies, wild rice, salad, bread, pretty dessert (strawberries, cream, cubes of strawberry shortcake with syrup @ the bottom in a champagne glass) =) quite happy. the hall itself was old but beautiful with stained glass windows, a high vaulted ceiling, gigantic costly portraits of past provosts and a really old tapestry hanging at the front. dean bowden interrupted our dinner to introduce the high table, the provost margaret macmillan talked a bit and in the middle of her speech, 0T6 marched in shouting something we couldn't quite make out. our frosh leader later explained it - it took a while for us to get o_0 they marched right through the hall and then we went back to our dinner and had a lovely time @ it too. i borrowed a res room and washroom to change back to less formal clothes and then we headed over to the quad to find our frosh groups again. this time we had another frosh leader 'cuz our other ones were busy setting up club stuff in the buttery. it was room around - when we get to meet club leaders, sign up and be bribed to do so by various beverages (every kind of alcohol possible) and food (cookies, squares, other goodies), and even cigars (the pipe club *ahem*) at the different booths. it was hard to move around w/ so many ppl milling about, and it was hot and sticky. i met my mom outside the larkin building and got driven home 'cuz it was so late already.
