i wanted to blog last nite, but i got home around 12:00 and i still needed to finish up some hwk.
HAPPY 18th JOYCE!!! ^________^ we had "dinner" at around 10:30 and i was soo full from all the cake and ice cream! i'm so glad vinca's going to trin too!! yay!! now i'll actually know somebody who goes to my college! our raspberry sorbet & peanut fudge ripple that tasted oddly like pecan at times was the pretties double scoop =P too bad we couldn't finish up the crêpes...they looked so pretty w/ all the icing sugar and whipped cream. i got to bed at 1:00 and expected to wake up at 9:00...hehe i actually slept 'til 12:20 oops.
we were supposed to go out for dinner downtown w/ my uncle, but our car got a flat tire and we couldn't drive on the highway, so he drove all the way up. we went out for dinner, and then me and my mom got dropped off at roy thomson hall for the josh groban concert around 7:30. whenever the announcer said "josh groban" people started screaming lol...here's the program:
buck 65 - in case you haven't heard him before, he's torontonian, does urban music but he's really hard to classify. he has this somewhat raspy voice and he doesn't really rap...he does the whole record scratching bit (it was sooo cool!) but it's like he's reading poetry more than rapping. he was funny tho, he looks so strange wearing a gray suit w/ the LP in front of him, dusting off his suit every now and then. he only did one song.
sarah slean - i really liked her...in fact, i'd like to be her hehe. she's so cute and funny, and more hyper than me! ^___^ she did two songs, the first one was called "duncan" and the second one i didn't recognize. wow her voice is really nice, it's almost jazzy (she names ella fitzgerald and billy holiday as her inspirations), but at the same time all her own style. she's just so talented; sat at the piano and played away and the whole audience was silent 'cuz it was one of those amazing moments. i read her bio thingy and she's an accomplished painter, does all her own cd album covers! AND she arranges the strings for her recordings and writes her own songs. like i said, i want to be her. loved her dress too! blue, strapless w/ purplish/reddish huge dots (i know that sounds kinda ugly, but it looked really nice on stage). when she first came on stage, she looked out at the sold-out hall and said "yikes" hehe.
blue rodeo - they sang about 5 songs 'cuz they were one of the featured artists. they were really good, much as i'm not really into that kinda music. when the opening notes of "bulletproof" sounded, the audience started cheering, and they sang it really well, and they can play so many instruments too! the lead was playing the harmonica and the guitar at the same time, and they had 4 keyboards lol! they had a special guest violinist for one song and she was overly-virtuosic. played double stops in octaves...i didn't even know that was possible! guitar solo was cool...i couldn't seem him using a tremolo bar, but i could hear it. he seemed to be only using his pick, strangely enough.
intermission - 15 minutes of me staring around at the architecture. i'd read an article on the renovations they'd made to the hall, and it was really great to be able to look around and see what they were talking about.
buck 65 - did another song. came out and said "what am i doing here?" hehe.
sarah slean - did two more songs, and they were so nice. there was a spotlight on just her and the piano and they had aqua-ish light on...really great performance. ppl clapped so much when she finished her set she had to come back and bow again. after she finished, the audience started getting really fidgety 'cuz they knew josh groban was coming up...
josh groban - lol, what an entrance! the audience went wild. ppl were screaming "i love you josh" hehe and he was like "same goes". first song he sang was "alla luce", first track on his self-titled album, and the drums were so loud they almost drowned him out. but the second he started singing, it was WOW 'cuz his voice is just so amazing. second song he did was "to where you are" and of course that was great. then he did "broken vow" which he said is going to be on the next record, tho i already have it 'cuz it was on the "live in concert cd" and dvd so i downloaded it off kazaA. afterwards, he did "starry, starry night", it was so good! his "last" song was "giro con me", so basically all of his songs were off his album. he walked off the stage, but ppl stood up and clapped until he came back out again and did his last, last song, "alejate". ^_____^ he left again, and again we clapped, so he had to come back out twice, but he wouldn't sing!!! >-< so we finally gave up and left. throughout the songs, there were some ensembling problems, the orchestra being half a beat late, esp. at the peak points of the songs, which kinda got me upset 'cuz i knew how it sounded on the cd. there was an afterparty in the lobby and the patio, with a jazz quartet and whole ton of food hehehehehehehe. mango, chocolate and some red ice cream, hors d'oeuvres, cakes, fruit, pâté...i've gotta get out of this habit of eating desserts at 10:30 at night. we left around 11:00, got driven home.
i'm now home, eating white chocolate cake 'cuz it's my dad's b-day, despite the fact that i'm full and that i'll be really hyper (actually, i am right now). blogging away...'cuz this was one of the greatest concerts ever! Sonic Bloom 2003 is one of the highlights of my year!!!! ^______^ it was worth every last penny my mommy paid. and i got to stare at the flautists and try to visualize myself in their place...*sigh* the TSO (toronto symphony orchestra) is so hard to get into. i doubt i'll ever even make it to the youth orchestra. ah well...dreaming can't be any harm.
