hey you!!!
so, i got to waterloo 2 hours early (hehehehe) and it was freezing...again. i'm starting to think it's in a permanent below-zero climate zone. anyhow, they piled all of us (dunno how many) into the big room at 12:00 and lo and behold, the chair i pick is the one that has the desk thingy on the left hand side...as if i'm left-handed! and it was the only chair that was like that! and it was the only one left! we had to write a precis (summarize, basically) a one-paged argumentative passage that was (get this) translated from a 1500s italian dude who thought that courtiers should be of noble birth and good family LOL. after that, we had to summarize the whole thing into one sentence, which was a little awkward 'cuz i personally didn't think half his points pertained to his thesis. it took sooo long 'cuz we got 75 minutes to actually write it and half an hour before and after the director dude was talking to us about how important it was to pass the precis, etc.

went out for a really hurried lunch 'cuz we couldn't find any decent eateries in waterloo. went back to the environmental studies building and warmed up on my flute for 10 minutes. got into a compie mix-up 'cuz i'd booked a laptop w/ internet access and when i went to check w/ the lady she said that the laptop doesn't have internet so they'd have to move the whole committee to the office and use their compies there. somehow that didn't need to happen 'cuz when i got called they had a laptop w/ internet access downstairs already, so whatever. there were 2 third-year students and two teachers evaluating me and the place was all carpeted and nice w/ a table and seats and everything. so i played my piece and talked about it a little and then i showed them my site (www.geocities.com/jaded_octopus) and they were really interested in my poems. hehe...i showed them that really dark one, hanna! and one of the guys said wow what made you write that!! and i honestly don't know why i wrote it lol. they were really interested in the "fear" picture too and asked me what made me want to depict the Inquisition for the theme of social injustice, and then there were the pics of my "head" hehe...it's a clay head we're doing in art that couldn't get fired so i had to take pics yesterday. they were asking me why i chose to do that particular face, and then asked if i thought lines/age is important in architecture. i hummed and hawed and then were like, it's not a trick question, so i said yes. >-< then i took out the big still life sketch, the "easter" sketch and the whale thingy. they were asking me what i thought about the art dept., and when i drew them, etc. then i brought out the "view from a window" painting from last year that i'd fixed up and explained it. after that, i brought out the lighthouse painting and talked about how i was reading to the lighthouse by virginia woolf when i drew it. and they were talking about mrs. dalloway and the hours and how it's so interesting. and i didn't read/watch any of it so it was kinda like...umm, no i didn't watch it...no, i didn't read it...no, i didn't finish reading it...no, i didn't find to the lighthouse interesting - it was boring. >-<
then they started asking me what i liked about architecture, whether i liked any particular architect, what kind of people are architects (i somehow brought up how architects are "special ppl" 'cuz i'd heard from tonelli when i asked her about architecture and they asked me so what does it take to be an architect?), which kind of poetry i like to write, who are my favourite poets (i said plath, then thought for a while before coming up w/ browning >-<). after that they asked if i'd talked to any of the students there about the program, and i told them i'd asked them more about the admissions process than anything. since there were two students sitting right in front of me, they said go right ahead and ask them some questions then! i blanked out for a while before coming up w/ "is the program intense?" >-< and then is there a lotta hwk. i know, i know...they were bad. *sigh* i don't think i'm getting in lol. they asked me what my parents think about me going to waterloo and going right into architecture, and whether i'd be commuting if i went to u of t. then they asked if i'd looked into other architecture programs, and told me i was young and good at different areas. is that supposed to mean i shouldn't go into architecture?!?!
went to square one after that and had dinner @ montana's. just opened a letter from trinity offering me an orientation day, and they're CHARGING $30 per person who's going!!! well, they serve you breakfast and lunch...but hey! since when were orientations = $$??? oh yeah, they said they're giving me a college entrance scholarship too...$1 000 for one year, which is only 'bout an eighth of what i need. *sigh* i need to work harder!!! i want $$$$!!! it's not fair!!! (yes i'm an ungrateful brat, but who isn't?).
thanks for getting my report card steph! glad salvas doesn't know me and can't distinguish an "n" from an "m" ^______^
