got to waterloo @ 9:00 this morning. wandered around the campus until we found somebody to guide us to the environmental studies building (very, very cold walk). we were really early but they gave us a tour of the facilities anyways - very, very impressive. it kinda reminded me of my bro's school (DMCI) because it has so many mac labs, 2 dark rooms and just basically every single piece of state of the art equipment you could imagine.
then we went to the architecture presentation which was long, but really helpful 'cuz they went through the whole program. *sigh* 7 years...mandatory co-op...new facilities being built for 2004...1000 applicants, 450 interviewed, 66 accepted >-<...portfolios...precis test...etc. very tough school, but a very good school nonetheless - i got that much out of it. what was really interesting was that 23% of the students who get their MA (master's in architecture) and don't practice architecture end up going into technology/design. there was one dude who actually ended up designing coruscant for starwars ep. 2 which is super super cool. i figure if i don't want to go into architecture or fail to pass the "bar" test i could work for disney! and what's really nice is that we're getting brand new facilities and in our fourth year, we get to go to study in rome! ^_____________^
afterwards, we went to the co-op building and got a tour of some of the facilities (interview rooms, digital conferencing, phone interviews, etc.) plus an explanation of how it all works. *sigh* moving every four months doesn't sound like fun.
then we went to toured a couple of the res buildings. one was apartment style, fairly spacious, nice furniture. the "villages" (cluster of dorms w/ a large common area for each village) were really quite nice...a tad more cramped but newer and nicer facilities (i.e. big screen tv, internet cafe, pretty caf, pretty dining area). then we'd had enough walking/freezing and left.
went home for half an hour then went to pick up my bro from his friend's house...went to chinatown (more freezing) and had dinner there. went to the mall there and had to wait for about an hour (no freezing =P). afterwards we went to the AGO 'cuz it's free on wednesdays and they have a new european arts exhibit up! they had a couple of monets, degas, rodin, etc. plus a huge new native american exhibit. i found that painting that i liked last time (cloud over water by paterson ewen) so that was good.
